These are the only badges in solid silver intended to be worn informally by Holders and Medallists to display appointment to the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Ministers have accepted in principle that a pin, buttonhole badge or brooch may be worn by holders for this purpose. The original designs were approved by John Brooke-Little C.V.O, formerly Clarenceux King of Arms, for the British Empire Collection.
